Honour Yourself

Honour your individuality, rejoice in reawakening, take a look back & see how far you have come. Celebrate your accomplishments and bless your apparent mistakes, for these are sacred teachers. Nurture yourself, use gentle words and *know* that you are precious, gorgeous & whole, inside, outside, right side up and upside down - even on days when you don't think so. This knowing is your journey. Deb X

Curing the incurable - A Blokes Bloke

Nicole Kidman is a fan, Sharon Stone teaches it and most recently Olympic cyclist Hayden Roulston, has been singing its praises.

Diagnosed with a fatal heart condition in 2006 which threatened to end his career, Roulston was advised by the medical fraternity that his condition was untreatable.

Reiki proved otherwise and it is perhaps one of its greatest claims to fame – curing the incurable. It is deriving increasing notoriety as an alternative therapy that can help those that traditional medicine has turned away.

A Japanese technique that treats the body, emotions, mind and spirit it is often referred to as the ‘laying on of hands’. It is based on the idea that sickness can be cured by increasing the life force energy that flows through us. As well as promoting recovery from accidents, surgery and illness it encourages relaxation, feelings of peace, security and well being.

Shane Laker, was a non believer before a local Papakura practitioner, Deb Wharfe, changed his mind. Still suffering from the pain of carpal tunnel syndrome after it had been operated on three years prior; Shane’s concern led him on a life-changing journey. When you find yourself in a place experiencing an ancient practice that you describe as ‘airy fairy’ it takes a leap of faith often borne of desperation. Shane’s healing occurred during his first session. He has a different perception on the alternative therapy now. “It’s pretty good alright” he says in a way that only a real kiwi bloke can (under the circumstances).
As a practice, Reiki is unique in that anyone can learn to channel the healing energies. It can be used as a healing treatment, or it can become a spiritual journey, a way of life that promotes healing at every level to create balance, harmony, clarity and ultimately enlightenment.

Reiki Healing Stories

I believe in miracles…

Vicky Jennings didn’t know a miracle was to occur in her life at the beginning of this year. What she did know was that she had had a run of bad luck. She had to sell her property because power lines were being put through it, she was made redundant and then she had a motorcycle accident. With several injuries including severe lower back pain, the accident left her unable to walk for any period of time.
Back problems are one of the most reported health issues in our country. Each year they cost ACC $350 million dollars and constitute 35% of work related payouts.
Diagnosed with compressed vertebrae, which doctors were unable to treat, twelve weeks of painkillers were prescribed to Vicky. Prior to the accident, and after seeing it many times, she picked up a business card advertising Reiki at her local pharmacy. It seems an irony that alternative therapists advocate using their services alongside traditional medicine and in this case traditional medicine was advocating theirs. In spite of using painkillers, two weeks of agony, being house bound and totally incapacitated, prompted her to use the card. What happened next Vicky believes; was nothing short of a miracle.
A miracle is defined as the divine intervention making something wonderful happen that is beyond coincidence. Deb Wharfe, a local Reiki Master and owner of Threads of Life, in ten minutes released the back pain that had left Vicky bedridden for two weeks.
Says Vicky, “it was like a tap was turned on in my back and the pain just flowed out of it”.

As well as promoting recovery from accidents, surgery and illness it encourages relaxation, feelings of peace, security and well being.

After three treatments Vicky’s back is healed. She no longer takes pain medication and has learnt Reiki herself to use on her own family. Now a firm believer in miracles Vicky is a testament to the power of Reiki healing.

“What the doctors said would take three months to heal, Reiki healed in three weeks. It was no accident that I picked up that card prior to my accident - It was a miracle” says Vicky.

A Break from Netball

A Break from Netball

Katarina Brown wanted a break from Netball, but not necessarily the broken collarbone she got on Thursday 1st of May at 6pm. Rushed to the Doctor by her Mum & (tough) Trainer Sue, the Doctor took an X-Ray and advised six weeks of waiting around and taking it easy was required before the bone would be healed.
A fortunate moment spent reading the Coffee News was to be a catalyst for a life changing journey for Sue.
Sue spotted an Ad in the paper for a Reiki Healer, phoned and was able to take Kata to see Deb straight away.
Deb used Reiki on Kata’s shoulder for an hour, after which time Kata went home feeling absolutely no pain and was reported to have slept deeply the whole night with both her arms up over her head in her anxious mothers bed. Sue rang Deb in the morning to let her know what had gone on and booked another visit for Kata the following evening. Deb worked again on Kata, using an extended Reiki fingers technique that her own Reiki Teacher had great success with & had passed on in training. After about 15 minutes Katarina’s collarbone, moved under Deb’s hands, both heard and felt by Deb & Kata. Kata went home and had another peaceful nights sleep with her arms over her head.
Sue was so amazed with the outcome & concerned about her daughter sleeping with her arms over her head she took her daughter back to the doctor who checked and found that the collarbone had mended. Kata was playing netball again in 4 weeks, and made the Rep team within a couple of months, trialing against 75 girls.
Reiki had made such an impact on the family that Sue studied and now has her Reiki 1 (Beginners) & 2 (Practitioners) Certificates. She uses Reiki regularly on her family and friends and can offer her services to anyone. Sue is very passionate about her Reiki and says it has changed her attitude to the whole of her life; uplifting her and empowering her immensely.
